Hearing Health Care Program Helping Adults with The Cost of Hearing Aids

Jared Brader

Thousands of adults across the Intermountain West, our Nation, and select parts of the world have something to ‘hear’ about because of the generosity and vision of Mr. Jared Brader. Mr. Brader grew up solving problems. After starting a career in hearing health care, and watching patients leave the clinic without treatment due to financial constraints, he decided this was another problem he could address. Watching members of the greatest generations become isolated, stop being active, and ultimately becoming a shadow of their former selves, Mr. Brader made a commitment to make sure these great members of our community would not go quietly into isolation. As a result, he created the Sound of Life Foundation with a distinct mandate; to bring people and communities together with better hearing. This experience touched him so deeply he vowed that someday, when he was able, he would take action to reduce social isolation of our great national treasure; our people!

In 2014, Mr. Brader formed the Sound of Life Foundation to begin tackling this social emergency. The funds he donated were earmarked for local adults in need of dementia risk reducing hearing health care treatments, with an emphasis on providing the most recent treatment methods possible to those in need. The Foundation also made a major investment in a multi-visit hearing health care mission trip to the people of the Navajo Nation. When Mr. Brader’s national audiology practice consulting endeavors took off, Jared was more determined than ever to help adults who could not afford the treatment necessary to live with dignity and confidence throughout the country

Searching for the most effective way to make an impact with his philanthropic passion, Jared and his advisors met with experts to discuss gaps in access to hearing health care for adults. When they discovered no program existed in Utah to help adults gain access to audiology treatment, they began to push the Sound of Life Foundation across the Intermountain West. In 2017, an initial grant facilitated treatment for over 100 adults in the Intermountain West. This effort marked a renewed focus on treating adults facing cognitive deprivation due to hearing loss.

Since its inception in 2014, The Sound of Life Foundation has evolved, and is now serving adults nationwide. The Sound of Life Foundation manages outreach, marketing, applications, screenings, audiology treatment, case management and evaluation. Since 2014, thousands of adults have been given new hearing smiles, renewed hope and restored self-esteem. Jared continues to pave the way in creating access to hearing health care with a cadre of staff, volunteers and specialists nationwide.

Treating Hearing Loss, Reducing Dementia Risk, and Bringing People Together

Donna & Johnny

“Working with the Sound of Life Foundation has been a wonderful experience! Franchesca has great skills and she is very personable! We are looking forward to understanding what it is being said. When we are in a room with a lot of people we can focus in on a conversation, but we cannot understand what they are saying. At home when we are watching TV or playing a computer game we have to turn it up so loud! Our neighbor even complained to us that we were too loud. We are so looking forward to receiving our hearing aids! We also had an amazing time completing our required volunteer hours. We volunteered at the catholic thrift store. We’ve never done this before and we love it. They want us to stay and continue volunteering. We have met new friends and we will continue to volunteer there. Thank you, Sound of Life, for this opportunity!”
